HEALTH AND SANITATION
SECTION 114. DEAD ANIMALS.
Owners of dead animals are required to dispose of the carcasses by burial or burning, especially where there is indication that the animal died of a disease classed as communicable.
Whenever the owner refuses to comply with this Section such means of disposal shall be made by any person and the cost of such disposal shall be assessed against the owner of the carcass.

SECTION 115. QUARANTINE.
The following is quoted from the Health Regulations of the State of South Dakota and is by action taken by the Tribal Council, a part of the Tribal Law and Order Code:
"Placarding of Premises".
Regulation No. F .
On all premises where a case of diphtheria, meningococcus meningitis, scarlet fever, typhoid fever, smallpox, or poliomyelitis exists, there shall be posted in conspicuous places, both at the back and front of the house or apartment, placards bearing the inscription "Communicable Disease" in large letters with the following warning: "All persons are by this means notified of the presence of infectious disease and are warned of the danger of coming in contact with it. It is unlawful to deface, mutilate, cover upon or remove this card without authority of the health officer." The placard shall not be less than 4 inches in width and 8 inches in length. The color of the placard shall be red. Where a case of tuberculosis or venereal disease exists, and the precautions necessary to prevent the spread of the disease are not observed, the health officer is hereby authorized to post a placard if, in his opinion this is necessary to protect the public.
The Law and Order Department shall post said placard under written order signed by the Superintendent, and at the time of posting the placard the household thus placarded shall be served official notice of such quarantine citing justification therefor.

SECTION 115.1 TREATMENT OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASE.
The Oglala Sioux Tribal Court shall have authority to order and compel the medical examination and treatment of any person found to be afflicted with any communicable disease.

SECTION 116 DOMESTIC WATER.
It shall be unlawful for any person to pollute any source of domestic water, namely a stream, spring, or well, by disposing of garbage or dead animals or to locate a privy within fifty (50) feet of said water source.

SECTION 117 PENALTIES.
Any Indian who violates the provisions of this Chapter or interferes with the performance of official duty thereunder is guilty of an offense and upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine of ten dollars ($10.00) or ten (10) days imprisonment, or both, with costs.
